I have taught English to foreign speakers for many years. While doing some teacher training for the British Council in Portugal on using mind maps in the classroom, I came up with this concept of language plants. Now, I run my company Language Garden, working extensively in schools and colleges in the UK, selling materials, giving presentations and training teachers. I have used language plants with tens of thousands of students of all ages and abilities, and get as much pleasure from talking to educated experts in diverse academic fields who are amazed at language plants as from witnessing the joy on the faces of young learners with special needs when they complete a language plant activity.
Presentation Title/Description: Language Garden – making beautiful materials, like grammatical mind maps.
Language plants are like grammatical mind maps. They look like little plants, or trees made of language. Words branch off from each other, so learners have access to a wonderful array of language. This presentation will show how you can make language plants, for free, using an online tool, and we will do some interactive activities, that are so much fun. Educational fun, let’s say.
