Elvira G. Deyamport, Ed.S. is a Gifted Education teacher (grades 2-6) at an elementary school in Hattiesburg, MS. Elvira has a specialist degree in Reading Instruction, a master’s in Gifted Education, and a dual bachelor’s in Elementary Education and Spanish. Prior to gifted, she taught second grade (3yrs.) and elementary Spanish (3yrs.). Her mission/ philosophy revolves around using technology to expose/connect her students to a variety of people, places, and ideas.
In addition to her role as a Gifted Education teacher, Elvira also facilitates a Technology Integration discussion group on Edutopia.org, leads technology workshops for her school site, and enjoys attending state and national gifted and technology conferences. Just recently, her proposal to present on Skype in the Gifted Classroom was approved for the 58th Annual Convention of the National Association for Gifted Children in New Orleans, Louisiana in November 2011.
Presentation Title/Description: Using Skype in the Classroom
In an effort to incorporate 21st century learning skills, Skype allows learners and teachers the opportunity to connect and collaborate. This session is geared towards teachers in K-12 settings and focuses on how to get started, ideas of how to effectively incorporate Skype in the classroom, and several resources for finding partners and projects.
